Engagement involves trainees be actively involved in the process of learning rather than recipients of predetermined wisdom arising from the expertise of the trainer. In this collaborative
dialogical process, the trainer/participants are engaged in a mutual problem-solving approach, which is capable of empowering participants to become pro-active agents and advocates for change at work, at school and in the community.
Assessment, planning and implementation require first hand observations, interviews and direct input from leadership and site diversity/equity leadership teams. Programs and services are custom tailored to promote equitable access and inclusion beginning with the design and the implementation of the equity & inclusion strategic action plan.
Trainings provide optimum impact with an inevitable degree of personal growth – an expansion of awareness about the self and some change of cognitive, affective and behavioral patterns.
Based on the principals of group theory and design, the exercises and skills are structured in a developmental sequence leading toward greater complexity and integration. Experiential trainings, workshops, seminars, strategic planning, retreats and individualized coaching sessions are custom designed.
Sample custom tailored training topics include: Inter-Cultural Competence, Disproportionality & Discipline, Leadership & Culture, Anti-Bias Training, Campus Climate, Inter-Cultural Conflict Resolution, Classroom Climate, Student & Parent Retreats, Coaching and Equity Institutes.
Insight, intention and equitable practices require intercultural proficiency. We start by exploring ways to increase awareness and understanding of differences to strengthen commonalities. The goal is to empower individuals, leaders, students, parents, and community leaders to choose to engage in self examination and be willing to change minds, attitudes and actions, that result in highly equitable educational and work place practices.
Inter-Cultural Synergy is created when we explore the important role culture and diversity play in the community, at work and school. In education, diversity shape school culture, school climate, student/teacher relationships, parent/school relationships, principal leadership, classroom climate and most importantly discipline, student connectedness and academic achievement.
For educators to teach, lead and inspire in equitable ways, there must be a heart set that understands at a gut level why equitable education is important. If this work stays at the level of the mind only, we can logically and statistically justify we are “doing equity work” without any real or meaningful change for students of color.
For leadership, the focus is on how these factors hinder or facilitate equitable, inclusive work practices, polices, relationships, creativity, resource allocation, parent engagement, leadership and productivity.
For students and parents the focus is on academic success, safety, inclusion, socio-emotional health and well being, access to resources and opportunities, college and career readiness.
Equity work is relational work - process work. It is about inclusion. It is about how we relate to one another. How we respond to each other. How we empower each other. How we teach each other. How we discipline. How we hold each other responsible and accountable to be the best we can be every day. This can only be achieved when we recognize each other’s humanity (you matter) and you have the right to quality education (you matter because you are worth it) and you have the right to a quality life (you matter and you are worth a quality educational experience...because success is your right).
